Emmy battles for festival spot

Isle of Wight singer-songwriter Emmy J Mac hopes to perform at this year's Isle of Wight Festival.

AN ISLE of Wight singer-songwriter will be among those competing at a Battle of the Bands in London tonight (Wednesday), hoping to win a spot at this year's Isle of Wight Festival.

Emmy J Mac is one of 12 finalists performing at legendary live music venue The Halfmoon, in Putney, looking to impress a panel of judges including festival boss John Giddings and Cockney Rebel Steve Harley, who is playing the festival in June.

Following a nationwide search for unsigned singers, bands and DJs, six lucky winners will be picked to join the festival bill alongside world-class acts including The Stone Roses, The Killers and Bon Jovi.

One will also take home a recording contract.

When the competition was fist launched, John Giddings told the Isle of Wight County Press: "There's so much talent out there, and I mean real talent, as opposed to X-Factor style talent where it's just like karaoke.

"I would love to discover a band like Free or U2, a band which could go on to headline the festival one day. I believe I should give new talent a chance."
