Hayley Yelling followed up her medal-winning performance at the European Cross-Country Championship with a runaway victory at the Reebok Cross-Challenge Series race at Holyrood Park, Edinburgh on Saturday.

The Sir William Borlase maths teacher's victory has put her joint top of the series alongside sister-in-law Liz Yelling of the Bedford Athletic Club for the overall title, which culminates with the World Championships Trials / Inter-Counties next year.

Her win came just one week after she was one of three members of the Great Britain squad who captured medals at the European Championships in Switzerland.

But she showed no signs of tiredness on her return to home soil as she and her British team-mates led off the charge on a damp Edinburgh afternoon with Sharon Morris (Bedford AC) gaining the most from the early exchanges.

Only Yelling responded as Morris tried to push the pace in the second lap as the race developed into a two-horse race.

Yelling made her move on the long steep climb on the third lap and took a clear lead for the first time which she extended all the way to the finish as she took a comfortable victory.
