A WILDLIFE event celebrating the Island’s heathland habitats will be held at Brighstone Forest on Sunday.
Organised by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, the event is part of the West Wight Heathland Restoration Project and will include guided walks, children’s activities and the launch of a free heathlands booklet.
Richard Grogan, head of Island conservation at the trust, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about this rare Island habitat and how the Wildlife Trust and its partners are helping to restore Island heathlands to their former glory.
"Birds such as the nightjar and Dartford warbler are becoming increasingly scarce as their habitats are lost but this project is turning that around."
The restoration project is supported by partners including the National Trust, West Wight Landscape Partnership and the Forestry Commission.
Sites at Ningwood, Mottistone, Bouldner and Brighstone have been restored.
Sunday’s event will take place between 11am and 3pm and parking is available at Mottistone’s Jubilee car park.
