FORMER Isle of Wight Council chief executive Joe Duckworth, who went on to become the country’s top-paid council boss at Newham Borough Council, London, is to become chief executive of the League Against Cruel Sports (LACS).
The League said he would take on the role in July following the retirement of current chief executive, Douglas Batchelor.
"I’m delighted to be joining the league and to have the opportunity to build on all the organisation has achieved over the last ten years," said Mr Duckworth.
A spokeswoman for the charity said it would not be appropriate to disclose his salary before he had started in the post, but said Mr Duckworth had taken a significant pay cut to take on the role.
Mr Duckworth left the Isle of Wight Council in 2008 to join Newham council with a salary of £240,000. He left that authority last year and has since been working as a consultant.
