THE WEIRD and wonderful world of experimental film and film-making will be the focus of a new festival in the West Wight this weekend.
The two-day event, Visioneca — A Festival of Experimental Film, is being hosted by media specialists Paul Windridge and Bob Cotton at Freshwater Bay House, Freshwater Bay, tomorrow (Saturday) and on Sunday.
The festival will chiefly feature screenings of short independent films, produced by more than 60 artists and film makers, which includes Islanders, from no fewer than 15 different countries.
The projects will include music video, stop motion, animé, CGI, 3D modelling and projection mapping.
On day two of the festival, there will be an exploration of the history of experimental film, with illustrated informal seminars focused on the American counter-culture, experimental works from the early history of film and how the documentary film is changing as it accommodates and exploits new media.
The festival will also include live acoustic music from Satsangi.
Mr Windridge said: "Visioneca will be unlike any of film festival in the UK. We won’t be showing new features or Hollywood blockbusters, or even typical arthouse cinema shorts and conventional narrative films derived from books or theatre.
"What we will be showing is a selection of the most exciting experimental motion picture work being produced around the planet." The event runs from noon tomorrow (Saturday) until 7pm and between 11am and 5pm on Sunday.
