As a lifelong Barnet resident I am very concerned about the London Connection' power line which is being built.

The National Grid engineers insist that the EMF levels are of no risk to residents whereas EMF expert Professor Denis Henshaw has an entirely different and more importantly, unbiased view.

He states that power lines can cause leukaemia and an increased risk of miscarriage.

These health risks are extremely worrying and I would like to know firstly, how the council granted planning permission for this project, and secondly, why the works have already commenced without one representative monitoring the potential implications on Barnet's Council's behalf.

The most shocking fact is that apparently a massive' public consultation exercise was undertaken for this project to determine residents' views.

Am I the only person in Barnet who was totally unaware of these plans? Obviously not, as I have personally asked over 150 Barnet residents who I know whether they had heard of this project and not one of them had.

Many of these are in fact the people who will be affected by the tunnel running underneath their houses and gardens. These people should be made aware of any possible risks involved and should have a say in this.

This is the largest tunnelling project ever undertaken by the National Grid, so why has it chosen Barnet and where is our council's protection from such a potentially hazardous project?
