WIGHTLINK has announced additional sailings today (Friday) on its catamaran route between Ryde Pier Head and Portsmouth Harbour.

The extra crossings will run at 4.40pm and 6.40pm from Portsmouth and at 5.25pm from Ryde.

The announcement follows cancellations of crossings at 6.40am from Portsmouth and 7.15pm from Ryde due to a mechanical fault on a catamaran and use of a charter vessel.

The cancellations will be in force until the catamaran, which is currently in dry dock, returns to service.

*A Wightlink spokesman said that due to forecast high winds a different charter vessel would be used on the crossings.

They added that crossings would take longer as the vessel was larger and so would have to sail around the fort. The extra sailings had been added to help ease pressure.
