Ferry disruption following car deck collapse

THE four people taken to hospital following the partial collapse of a car deck aboard an Isle of Wight ferry have been discharged.

A number of car ferry sailings were cancelled by Wightlink following the incident on the St Helens car ferry at Fishbourne on Friday evening.

An investigation has been launched into the accident, which happened as the ferry was unloading vehicles from the 9.30pm sailing from Portsmouth.

Four people were taken to St Mary's Hospital, Newport, with non-life threatening injuries.

They were discharged following treatment for minor injuries and shock.

The incident was reported to the Marine Accident Investigation Branch.

The following sailings have been cancelled:

Today (Sunday, July 20) — from Portsmouth: 12.30pm, 2.30pm, 4.30pm and 6.30pm; from Fishbourne: 1.30pm, 3.30pm, 5.30pm and 7.30pm.

Tomorrow (Monday, July 21) — from Portsmouth: 7.30am, 9.30am, 11.30am, 1.30pm, 3.30pm and 5.30pm; from Fishbourne: 8.30am, 10.30am, 12.30pm, 2.30pm, 4.30pm and 6.30pm.
