GLORIOUS weather and crowds totalling more than 20,000 over the weekend ensured the Garlic Festival was a resounding success.

As ever, there was plenty of food, entertainment and family fun on the Newchurch site.

David Holmes, chairman of the Garlic Festival, said: "It was a terrific weekend with the number of visitors to the festival comparable to last year’s.

"It is gratifying that despite the economic situation we’re in, so many Islanders and visitors to the Isle of Wight from far and wide came along to it."
