THE UP and Down Kite Festival, cancelled in June due to bad weather, will take place this weekend.

The event, organised by the New Carnival Company and Natural Wight, will be held at Bembridge Down on Saturday from 2.30pm.

There will be an array of colourful kites, handmade from biodegradablematerials, a free fly zone, displays by professionalkite artists Sky Bums and outdoor entertainment and workshops.

There will also be a kite walk to the site from Yaverland car park, along the coastal footpath, starting at 2pm.

Workshops were held at schools and community centres across the Island throughout May and June, giving people an opportunity to make their ownnature-inspired kites for the festival.
