Barnet 0 Scarborough 0
FA Trophy fourth round
The frustration of Barnet's fans reached a peak with Mark Gower's injury-time penalty miss against Scarborough.
Neil Midgley look certain to score when he was was brought down by Paul Shepherd. But Gower blasted the spot kick wide.
It was the fourth time in the last five games that Barnet failed to score, made worse by the fact that Scarborough played the second half with ten men and just nine for the dying seconds.
Bees' boss John Still said: "I'm disappointed, too. We need an experienced striker but we can't afford to sign one."
Shepherd was the second player sent off by the referee, who had shown the red card to player-coach Mark Patterson for a vigorous late challenge on Gower in the 44th minute. Seven other players were booked.
Barnet were without Lee Gledhill, Lee Flynn and Stuart Niven, all suspended, and Mark Arber, who was ill. In their place, Lee Pluck and Craig Pope gave steady displays.
Barnet, seeking revenge for a 3-0 loss at Scarborough in December, could have been 3-0 up at half time. Ben Strevens, Frazer Toms and Gower all came close but after Wayne Purser's header was cleared off the line, Barnet showed a lack of enterprise.
BARNET: Naisbitt; Pope, Heald, Pluck, Sawyers, Berkley (Purser 61), Gower, Doolan, Toms, Strevens, Midgley. Subs not used: Harrison, Taylor, Darcy, Bell. Attendance: 1140. Man of the match: Pluck.
