Fight For The Wight: Song highlights IW’s plight

Monday, August 1, 2016 - 6:02

A SONG designed to highlight the Island’s struggles and strengthen the Fight for the Wight campaign, is be released today (Monday).
The campaign was launched by the Isle of Wight County Press and IW Council in a bid to raise awareness of the cuts affecting IW public services and to encourage people to sign a petition to acknowledge the Island faces unique challenges and needs more government money.
The Fight for the Wight single was written, produced and recorded by Platform One, the Island’s music college, and will be available to download from www.fightforthewight.co.uk for 79p.
Profits could be used to launch a community music project, led by Platform One, the Island's independent music college.
Platform One staff members Andy Booth, Mark Chettle and Ben Allman wrote the catchy song, while students from various courses featured on the track, as well as pupils from The Island Free School in Ventnor and saxophonist Gary Plumley.
A video has also been produced to accompany the song, which was recorded by Wight Media Services and features council staff, IW Fire and Rescue Service, library staff and members of the County Press team.
David Pontin, director of Platform One, said: "Since 2014, the IW Council had to withdraw the Island’s Music Service.
"Now, there isn’t one providing regular musical education for the Island’s children and young people.
"Platform One wanted to get involved with the campaign to raise awareness of the issues facing this and other, vital, Island services that are becoming steadily depleted. I am very proud of what we’ve created."
Sign the petition and download the single from www.fightforthewight.co.uk and see the video below.
