TEACHERS and governors past and present gathered to say farewell to the headteacher of Field Primary School in Watford last Friday.

Mr Geoff Dubberley, 59, joined the school in Elfrida Road as head 22 years ago and during his time there has seen it flourish and oversaw the restructuring of the school following Field Infant's move to new premises.

He said it would be difficult to leave the school, but he would continue to run its gymnastics and cricket clubs.

'Obviously it is sad leaving. I will miss the children, and staff,' he said.

True to form, Mr Dubberley made a discrete exit from his retirement party to help unload two minibuses and welcome home children returning from a school trip to Wales.

Chairman of governors Mr Geoff Greenstreet, who helped appoint Mr Dubberley, praised him for all his hard work during his years as headteacher.

'He is dedicated and I have enjoyed working with him,' Mr Greenstreet said. 'I don't think anyone would disagree that he will be sadly missed.'

Mr Dubberley's successor will be deputy head Mrs Julie Henley, 40, who has worked at the school for seven years.

Speaking about her new role, she said: 'I think it is going to be quite challenging and I am looking forward to it and moving the school forward.'

Retirement will allow Mr Dubberley more time for his hobbies, beekeeping and gardening.
