ISLE of Wight Fire and Rescue were called to reports of a fire at GKN Aerospace today (Saturday).

One fire crew from East Cowes headed to the aviation company on Ferry Road at 5.32am after a fire was reported in an autoclave — a heated container.

A fire spokesman said the crews were waiting for the temperature in the autoclave to drop to 50 degrees celsius before it could be inspected. A recent reading recorded the temperature at 180 degrees celsius.

A spokesman for GKN said the factory was running as normal.

*A fire spokesman said the fire was out by 1.30pm.
