A FIRE at a hospital education block was contained in the roof by firefighters yesterday afternoon (Wednesday).
The small blaze was sparked by workmen using a grinder in the roof space of the building, in the grounds of St Mary’s Hospital.
Firefighters from around the Island were called to the scene and worked quickly to control and extinguish the blaze, amid concerns about the electrics of the nearby ambulance control room.
Staff were evacuated from the building and no-one was injured in the incident, which was reported at around 3pm.
The fire was extinguished by 5pm and firefighters were on scene for a further 20 minutes to ventilate the building.
