There was an exciting end to a cup clash involving members of Boreham Wood Bowls Club.

Margaret and Arthur Moseley scraped through a heat of the National Mixed Pairs, thanks to a last-gasp effort.

The duo held a two-shot lead going into the last end of their match against a pairing from Oakhill.

But they found themselves three shots down as Arthur stepped up to bowl his last wood.

Arthur managed to pick up the jack and took it to Margaret's back bowl to to hold two shots.

That effort was enough to seal a four-shot win and a passage into the next round of the competition. Margaret is in round two of the county singles after beating an opponent from Townsend by seven shots.

A win by six shots has taken Tarn Oxley and Ken Sharp into the fourth round of the St Albans and District Pairs. They overcame a pair from Harperbury by 19-13.

There were mixed fortunes for the ladies in two matches played against North Watford.

The friendly team consisting of Sheila Clements, Betty Lacey, Ivy Eales and Vera Biscoe won 27-19. But there was an eight-shot defeat for the club on the league rink.

Only 13 ends were played against Mill End on Saturday before the match was abandoned because the green became unplayable. A league match against Garston was lost on Sunday.
