Firefighters called to Totland

FIREFIGHTERS were called to a fire at Totland pier tonight (Thursday).

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said they were called to a building used as a cafe at the pier, in Madeira Road, following a report of smoke coming from it shortly after 11pm.

Crews from Freshwater, Yarmouth and Newport were sent to the scene.

The affected building was a single storey, 25 metre by 5 metre, wooden construction, according to Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.

*At 11:57pm the fire and rescue service said two crews remained on scene and were damping down. Police were also on scene and were working with the fire and rescue service to establish the cause of the fire.
