Abbotstonians 16

London French 22 (Feb 2)

LONDON French kicked-off Saturday's game against Abbotstonians with the benefit of the wind behind them, writes Allie Manser.

The visitors put their initial points on the board with a try in the first 20 minutes to take the lead, but Abbotstonians defended well.

However, speed was of the essence and the visitors again managed to break through the defence to score the try not converted.

French realised that a plan was apparent 25 minutes into the game by Abbotstonians eagerness to get the ball to first team captain James White.

The captain was inspirational and in his first attack there was no stopping him as he put five points on the board with a great try from the half-way line.

The second half saw a change in possession with Abbotstonians being awarded a penalty. This was converted successfully by John Welsh and gave Abbotstonians the push they needed to get back into the game.

Stones then scored a fantastic try through from John Welsh again the try not converted.

With five minutes to go Abbotstonians were awarded a penalty which Welsh successfully converted taking them into the lead for the first time.

The lead was short lived as French managed to run in at the last minute to score a final try and give them the game.

Both Abbotstonians U-11s and U-10s were beaten by Slough at the weekend despite spirited performances from both.

Abbotstonians are at present recruiting new players for both their junior and senior rugby squads. For more information contact Allie Manser on 07958 704 568.
