FIREFIGHTERS on the Isle of Wight will join mainland colleagues on Saturday in a national strike over planned government pension reforms.
Fire Brigades Union (FBU) members will take part in a four hour strike between 6.30pm and 11.30pm, however the Isle of Wight Council has assured residents that the service will continue to respond life-critical incidents.
During the strike, cover will be maintained on the Isle of Wight by non-FBU members. They will attend life critical incidents such as house fires or crashes.
It follows a similar strike on September 25.
Fire control will not be affected by the strike and will be operating as normal. People should continue to dial 999 in an emergency, Isle of Wight Council said.
