A COUPLE who work tirelessly for a medical charity have been presented to its royal patron.

Sharon and Andrew Martin are chairman and treasurer of Bexley, Greenwich and Lewisham Leukemia Research Fund.

The couple, who live in Swingate Lane, Plumstead, were introduced to the Duke of Kent at a Leukemia Research Fund event in its laboratories at the Institute for Child Health at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The couple lost their son Tim to the disease four years ago, at the age of 18, and the local branch of the fund was formed last year and has already held a series of fundraising events.

Sharon said: “There has been tremendous progress in treating children but there is still much to be done.”
