SCREEN star Brian Blessed is to open this year's Isle of Wight Walking Festival in May.

The star of films such as Flash Gordon and Henry V, as well as famous TV series Z Cars and Black Adder, will be at Medina Theatre on May 5, the Isle of Wight Council announced today (Tuesday).

It will be the second time he has been part of the event, having previously attended in 2010 when he gave a talk to a packed Medina Theatre audience.

Elaine Cesar, Isle of Wight Council senior events officer, said: "We are delighted to welcome Brian back to the Isle of Wight.

"As well as his acting career, he has many fascinating stories about his adventurer past, including stories about Yetis and how age is no barrier to climbing mountains.

"He is back by popular demand and the evening is not one to miss."

Tickets for the event are available from Medina Theatre.

Whilst I look forward to Mr Blessed's stories about Yetis, surely this article is about Mr Blessed and a photograph of him would have been more appropriate than this file photo of an abominable snowman in an inexpensive suit?
