A COMPETITION to name the new Cowes to East Cowes floating bridge has been postponed due to the up-coming local and general elections, according to the Isle of Wight Council.

In a brief statement, the authority says that further 'full details will be circulated at the appropriate time.'

Suggestions for the name of the new bridge include Floaty McFloatface and Blyskawica, the name of the Polish warship that defended the two towns from a Nazi bombing raid 75 years ago.

Last month the Isle of Wight Council announced it was opening the naming of the new Floating Bridge to the public.

The public has been invited to submit suggestions to the Isle of Wight Council facebook page. They will be shortlisted and people will then get to vote for their favourite.
