By Emily Pearce

Sunday, February 10, 2013

A FLOOD alert has been issued for the Eastern Yar today (Sunday) following heavy rain.

Flooding is possible along the river and its tributaries from Whitwell to Bembridge, according to an alert issued by the Environment Agency at 4.36pm.

There are also reports of localised flooding on roads around St Helens, Merstone, Godshill, Whitwell and Nettlestone, due to surface water run-off from fields.

Drivers have been urged to take care.

For further information, visit the Environment Agency website or call the Floodline on 0845 988 1188.

With all the rain, I'm thinking the Isle of Wight needs re-drawing. The inlets are bigger and new ones have formed (especially between Thorley and Yarmouth)!

Just goes to show that if more houses at built at Arreton & everything paved over, about 15 acres, all the surface water will drain into Arreton stream which in turn will run into the river Yar making flooding at Langbridge & Horringford even worse that it is now !!
