Flood alert for Gurnard Luck

By a County Press reporter

Friday, December 14, 2012

A FLOOD alert has been issued for Gurnard Luck this afternoon (Friday).

The Environment Agency said: "20mm of rain has fallen at Cowes in the last twelve hours and the level in the Gurnard Luck has been high, especially during the lunchtime tide today.

"As the river can take 8 to 10 hours before all the rainfall leaves the system, the level is expected to rise again during tonight's high tide, expected at 2330 hours.

"The tides are also higher than normal tonight which will cause water levels in the river to be held up longer. Properties next to the Gurnard Luck are likely to see garden flooding as a result."
