DOZENS of sea scouts swapped their sailing gear for black plastic bags and stout gloves when they took part in a tidy up of one of the Island’s favourite haunts for yachtsmen on Saturday.
Young people from East Cowes sea scouts helped in the Big Tidy Up at the Folly, Whippingham, in an event supported by the Isle of Wight Council’s senior environment and neighbourhood officer, Gill Mulcahy.
The tidy up followed a makeover of the scout’s hut at the Folly, where the council’s community safety team worked with the probation service’s restorative justice scheme. The scouts also repainted the hut and carried out repairs.
The Isle of Wight Council’s head of community safety services, Zoryna O’Donnell, said: "The restoration of the sea scout hut and the Big Tidy Up event demonstrates that partnership working can result in positive outcomes for young people and the community."
