Twickenham 33. Tries: Johnston, Mexsom, Taylor (2), Wardlow. Conversions Clark (4)

Uxbridge 7. Tries: 1. Conversions 1

Saturday, March 21

Twickenham proved themselves the more persistent side in this Middlesex Cup match played at Uxbridge, although technically a home game for Ts, the result of a disciplinary penalty.

Ts immediately put Uxbridge under pressure, although they failed to create points thanks to a strong Uxbridge defence. Then, halfway through the first half, the tide turned and Uxbridge began to penetrate Twickenham territory and quickly demonstrated how to finish as they went into the lead with a converted try.

Twickenham responded when the ball travelled across the backs to Jon Taylor who touched down close to the posts giving James Clark a straightforward conversion.

The opening 10 minutes of the second half saw a plodding game with neither side showing the conviction needed to score, until Jon Taylor found forward Andy Mexsom with a pass which saw the burly forward claim five points as he crossed the Uxbridge line.

This gave Twickenham the push they needed to take control of the game and a try swiftly followed from Johnno Johnston who was at the end of a move which saw the ball pass from flanker Rob Kirby to centre Joe Foley before he took the pass and touched down. Clark confidently converted.

Next, winger Chris Wardlow, clearly suffering a rib injury, didn't let the pain go to him until after he made a 40-metre dash to extend Twickenham's lead to 26-7.

He witnessed the successful conversion by Clark before leaving the pitch.

Twickenham are now scheduled to meet Ruislip in the next round of the cup.
