THE FORMER Yarmouth Station which for many years was the town’s youth centre is set to be sold by the Isle of Wight Council for nearly £104,000.
The historic building which has been vacant for around 18 months was declared surplus to the Isle of Wight Council’s requirements in January this year following a review of youth service provision on the Island.
Marketing the building, which was in poor condition, began in January with a guide price of £50,000. However, interest in the site proved to be very strong according to a report, and a decision was taken to re-advertise the site in March. A further nine offers were received with £103,766 being the highest offer received.
A final decision to sell the site cannot be taken before Wednesday, next week, under delegated powers by Cllr George Brown, the Isle of Wight Council’s cabinet member for the economy.
