Kingston's Sven Hamer is closing in on the British lightheavyweight title after a second round stoppage of Chesterfield'sGreg Scott Briggs at Caesar's in Streatham, last week.

The 25 year old, who weighed in at 12st 10lbs, is enjoying the bestspell of his career and soon went to work on his Chester-field opponent.

Hamer started with solid jabs to the head and body, pushing Briggs ontothe back foot.

He then moved inside and forced a standing count with combination shotsto the head and body.

Hamer using good skills moved to the side and threw a nice right handover the top forcing another standing count.

He sent Briggs to the canvas again in the second and referee John Lewisstepped in to prevent Briggs taking any further punishment.

Sven Hamer's next contest will be on December 14 in Hull, in a finaleliminator for the British l/heavy weight title.

l Battersea Bomber Howard Eastman claimed the vacant British MiddleweightChamp-ionship by beating Salford veteran Steve Foster on Monday. Eastmandropped former world title challenger Foster with a left to the body inRound 7, at which point the ref stopped the fight.

Eastman's advantages in youth, size and power were always likely toprevail against the experience of 37 year old Foster.
