Dinosaur Isle.
DINOSAUR Isle, Sandown, is opening its doors to celebrate ancient finds from the Isle of Wight at a free one-day exhibition on Saturday.
Blast from the Past will feature a range of fascinating items, including dinosaur fossils, prehistoric finds, Roman coins, ammonites and flint axes. The free event takes place between 10am and 4pm.
Professional palaeontologists, archaeologists, natural historians and collectors will be there for visitors to chat to. Fossils can be brought along for identification.
Blast from the Past is designed to showcase the impressive selection of fossils recovered from the Island’s eroding coastline while teaching people how to search for them responsibly so important sites can be preserved for future generations.
Dinosaur fossils will be displayed by their finders, including many recent finds from the Isle of Wight’s coastline.
There will also be a range of activities for children, including face painting, model making and fossil sorting.
Weather permitting, there will be a guided fossil walk at Yaverland beach, starting at 9am. There will be a charge and places must be pre-booked by phoning the museum. Details of costs can be found by visiting www.dinosaurisle.com
Steve Hutt, who until his recent retirement was Dinosaur Isle’s curator, will be giving a talk about his career between 6pm and 8pm.
Steve’s talk is expected to be in high demand, with booking essential. Seats can be reserved by phoning the museum.
