A FRENCH yacht was towed to safety by Cowes RNLI Lifeboat after suffering engine trouble yesterday (Sunday).

The 46 foot yacht Patou was brought to Trinity Landing after the lifeboat was launched at 5.55pm

A Cowes Lifeboat spokesman said the man and woman on board had planned to sail from East Cowes to Yarmouth but had changed their plan off Gurnard due to the strong westerly wind.

When they attempted to return to Cowes they could not start their engine.

The couple planned to sail to the boat's home port of St Malo once repairs had been carried out.
