Full steam ahead for community pool

A NEW sauna is due to be unveiled at the community-run Waterside Pool in Ryde on Friday.

The pool will celebrate its 40th anniversary in August and for the last two years has been run by a trust, which took over from the Isle of Wight Council.

As a thank you to pool members, the sauna, which looks out over the Canoe Lake, will be free to use until the end of March and at a discounted rate of £1 after that.

A members only Lido, with decking, outdoor gym equipment and seating has also been created.

Trustee Keith Gentleman said the trust was grateful to volunteers, local businesses, Ryde Town Council and the members that used the pool for their support.

This project, along with Shanklin Theatre is a superb example of how people can change the future.

It also illustrates perfectly the difference between the selflessness of those running these two facilities for their community and those who posture and pose, proclaiming themselves as the saviours of the people, when, in reality, they are only self-publicising, shallow, narcissists, who thankfully have now been "outed" due to their own hollow proclamations.

It also proves that if local buildings are genuinely to be used for "the community" and not for the self - aggrandisement of a select few, then it will succeed.

Congratulations to Keith and everyone else involved.
