Fun for all the family at Garlic Festival

Titan the robot.

THE Isle of Wight Garlic Festival, one of the Island’s biggest summer shows, is back at Newchurch today (Saturday) and tomorrow.

At the centre of the show is the Isle of Wight's great local produce, such as local garlic, used in all sorts of ways, from ice cream to salad dressing.

There will be cookery demonstrations, tastings, and free samples and the beer tent will be serving ales and ciders made on the Isle of Wight.

Live music plays a big part in the event, with 1970s pub rockers Eddie and the Hot Rods headlining on Saturday and Paper Lace headlining on Sunday. Local bands The Beach Buoys, Lucid and Derek Sandy will also play over the weekend.

The crowds will be entertained by a host of acts including Titan the robot, David Randini’s Punch and Judy show and free circus skills workshop with Ryde Extreme Performers.

The show is open Saturday and Sunday, 10am-6pm.

I caught an extra bus both ways. One thing though, why run them alongside the timetabled buses and not in between. So although it was an additional bus, it ran at the same time... WHY ???

We constantly here the refrain the eco Island. Once again we see what a farce this is. One of the biggest festivals on the Island. A massive car park, free parking and the roads re-organised to make things as easy as possible for motorists. But should you be foolish enough to try and come by bus - there are no extra services between Shanklin, Sandown, and Ryde, just the usual once an hour bus. And of course when it does arrive it is full and you can't get on! Eco Island!!
