A NEW fund to help green businesses has been launched.

The £950,000 Green Growth Business Loans Scheme, for small and medium sized enterprises, will help businesses on the Isle of Wight and in the Solent area.

The money is available to businesses who can match fund the loan and can demonstrate the cash will create jobs in the green industries and businesses, such as those involved in environmental technologies and services, waste and recycling, renewable and low carbon energy.

The fund is supported by the government’s Regional Growth Fund.

Environment and energy charity the Footprint Trust welcomed the news.

Spokesman Ray Harrington-Vail said: "This is real opportunity for green-minded entrepreneurs to get funding to kick start their projects.

"The Island needs to encourage those with ideas to create sustainable jobs to come forward."
