PLANS are being finalised for Mondomix 2017 after organisers won a second round of National Lottery Arts Council funding.
The Mondomix Festival of New Empowering Music focuses on bringing a diverse range of world-influenced music to the Island. It draws an increasing number of mainland music lovers.
A project spokesman said: "When making decisions about funding, the Arts Council is not only concerned about the artistic quality of a festival’s music but also the event’s impact on the region in which it is located.
"With more than 50 per cent of the increased number of tickets sold last year being bought by non-Island residents, we were able to evidence both a widening engagement with the Island’s population but also, and crucially, the festival was making a growing contribution to the IW’s attractiveness as a tourist destination."
Mondomix is organised by volunteers who make up the World Village Project.
They say there is a growing demand among the festival-going public for smaller non-commercial arts-focused events.
This year’s funding success means the festival will remain at Calbourne Water Mill 'for the foreseeable future’.
This year’s event takes place between June 2 and 4. For details, visit www.mondomix.uk
