The search is on in Hertsmere to find the most community-minded bobby who appears head and shoulders above the rest.

People from Shenley, Radlett, Borehamwood and Elstree are being given the chance to nominate the Metropolitan Police's best neighbourhood bobby for the Community Constable of the Year 1998.

Judges are looking for the constable who best demonstrates the ability to deal with a variety of crimes as well as strengthening the bond between the Met and the community.

The award seeks to give recognition to police officers who have made valuable contributions.

This is the seventh Metropolitan Police Service Community Constable of the Year Award. The winner will represent the Met at the national competition, organised by the Police Review, held later this year.

Nomination forms are available from police stations, libraries and post offices within the borough. Completed forms should be sent to Julie Prinsep, Public Relations Branch, Room 1324, New Scotland Yard, Broadway, London, SW1H 0BG by July 31.
