FULHAM.

SATURDAY MARCH 20.

Division 2 York City 0 - Fulham 1

Fulham will be hoping to continue their excellent away form at Gillingham tomorrow (Saturday) after an unexpected midweek break.

The Cottagers were forced to cancel Tuesday's home game against Walsall after Allan Neilson, Paul Trollope and Chris Coleman were called up for Welsh international duty.

The game will now be played on April 7 and could feature Aston Villa's unsettled Serb Sasa Curcic.

Fulham are in the hunt to sign the former Yugoslav international but face competition from Crystal Palace.

Fans will be hoping for a similar degree of fortune tomorrow as was on display at York last week.

Goalkeeper Maik Taylor could not have picked a better game to display his skills as there is strong speculation that Fulham could bid for Newcastle's Shaka Hislop.

Taylor was by far the busier of the two goalkeepers by denying Gary Bull on a couple of occasions and also saving well from Rodney Rowe, who proved to be a real handful.

York were unfortunate when Bull shot high before the interval and Mark Tinkler cracked a first time effort wide.

Taylor's real moment of glory came early in the second half when he kept out Neil Thompson's thunderous drive.

Fulham, who came closest to scoring when Rowe cleared Chris Coleman's header off the line after six minutes, gotthe winner 15 minutes from time.

Steve Hayward centred, Neil Smith flicked on and substitute Paul Moody headed back across goal for Paul Peschisolido to score. Manager Ray Wilkins admitted: "The performance was disappointing, but at this stage the result is paramount for us."
