ORGANISERS have reluctantly been forced to call off this Sunday’s Gardening Galore.

The event fell victim to earlier rain which waterlogged Rookley sports field.

It is the second time in three years the fundraiser for the Rookley Village Association has been cancelled.

One of the organisers Sonya Rigaud Barrett said: "We inspected the field last night (Friday) and it was really sodden underfoot. There was no way it would be dry enough come Sunday.

"It is important the field is not churned-up because the cricket season is approaching.

"It is a real shame we have had to cancel because the funds are important to us being able to continue to provide the field and village hall at affordable rates to the community."

Gardening Galore Revisited is planned for June 8 when there will be a wide variety of gardening stalls from growers, nurseries, garden centres and suppliers of tools.
