Lee if anyone has all those expensive items then I'm sure they can afford their own CCTV. As long as with have people who have and those who have not then crime will never disappear. That will never happen so don't store gold etc on your property or at least don't let your mate know you have it lol

cont: check them out they are robust, work in the rain, heat and snow and will catch any movement (some have sound recording) with photo or video.

Well worth having one to see who is having a nose around your home.

Ian, sadly no, I am just another statistic from an unsolved break in.

Only about £1000 worth, which was not covered by my insurance so I had to pay for repairs and replace the items myself.

So I spent a long time looking at cameras, and I still do, modern technology is amazing, I have several cameras and always try to keep up to date with new ones, but as with most things, you pay for what you get.

Google is great, many online forums for tech-nerds (I am not one though!) so you can spend a while researching what is best for your home/workplace/shed/garage/land etc.

Did you know you can get a fully portable battery operated camera, infra red, motion sensor activated, SD card memory, for around £100.

Hide it anywhere, in your hallway facing your front door or an easy access window, out in your garden or porch (and it is fully weatherproof).

They use them on wildlife shows, Maplins do them too, again, you pay for what you get.

Trail cameras, check the

Yes Stephen, CCTV for all islanders.
Ok, say you own a gold watch, and some gold bars, and a new giant flat screen TV and also a couple of laptops, and a Ferrari, where are you going to safely hide this lot away each time you go to work? If I was a thief and saw you go out for the day I would silently cut my way in through a glass window as one of my friends followed you to make sure you did not return, then I would find and take the lot. You would not know who I was, but if you had CCTV which saved images to an external source, then even if I ripped out the CCTV and burnt your house down you would still have clear footage of me doing it all!
So yes, CCTV is the way forward, technology is advancing, there are even CCTV units with remote viewing, ie you can watch your house online from miles away, on holiday, in an internet cafe, & it will email you if you have movement in your house etc.
It has to be done!
Can you imagine, no more news stories like this in the papers!!

I imagine the police have checked eBay?

If people want to know what the coin looks like there are a few for sale on the island on eBay around £1500, eBay item number 170922904866 (I would like to say that I in no way imply that the seller is involved, I am just showing CP readers online what the coin looks like so they know what to look for)
CCTV is quite cheap these days, I think someone should get a deal/discount for islanders so everyone has a CCTV unit in their home, make the island safer!!
