A THREE-YEAR campaign by Welling School, Elsa Road, Bexley, to become a specialist arts college was successful it changes in September. It will continue to provide an all-round education but it will also specialise in graphics and the performing arts. The school launched its campaign at the House of Commons in 1999. After the announcement Bexleyheath and Crayford MP Nigel Beard congratulated headteacher Bryant Ambrose, his staff and primary schools "for their vision and persistence".
He said: "Having a school as a specialist arts centre means many will get a head start in developing fulfilling careers in graphic and performing arts. The whole area will be enhanced by this success."
