Green light for school scheme

Gatten and Lake Primary School.

A SCHEME to relocate Gatten and Lake Primary School to a new building on playing fields off Oaklyn Gardens, Shanklin has been given the go ahead by members of the Isle of Wight Council’s planning committee tonight (Thursday)

The project will result in a new school being built on the playing fields as part of the Isle of Wight Council’s schools re-organisation programme.

However, local residents objected to the project complaining about the loss of the playing fields, increased traffic congestion and noise from the school.

The scheme was recommended for conditional permission by planning officers.
