GREEN Party co-leader Dr Caroline Lucas will visit the Isle of Wight next month.
On Friday, February 17, at 7pm Dr Lucas will speak at a free public meeting at the Riverside Centre, Newport.
It follows a visit last November by fellow Green Party co-leader Jonathan Bartley.
She will be discussing a range of issues including Europe, climate change, progressive alliances and the opportunities which could arise if Green were elected to the Isle of Wight Council in May.
Vix Lowthion, of the Isle of Wight’s Green Party, said that Green candidates from all backgrounds, expertise and experience would be standing for election across the whole Island in the spring.
She also expressed her disappointment at the resignations this week of the Leader and Deputy Leaders of the Isle of Wight Council, Cllrs Jonathan Bacon and Steve Stubbings, as well as the executive member for the PFI and waste contracts, Cllr Gordon Kendall, and questioned who was now in charge of the authority.
She said: "This is such a disappointing development. There will be few positives that Islanders can take from the Island Independents resigning from leading the council, so close to the May elections."
