THE eviction of green protesters occupying a roundabout in Newport is passing peacefully with just one woman arrested on suspicion of obstructing a bailiff.
Bailiffs arrived at the protest camp, on St Cross Business Park, at 10.30 this morning (Friday) after landowners MJH Developments were granted a possession order at the Isle of Wight County Court on Tuesday.
The protesters, who include former Vestas workers and eco-campaigners, have been allowed time to dismantle the encampment, which is ongoing.
Police have, however, confirmed a woman was arrested under section 10 of the Criminal Law Act 1977 for obstructing a bailiff.
She is believed to be a district councillor turned eco-activist from the mainland.
The camp has been on the roundabout near the Vestas Blades factory since the workers’ occupation of the plant in the summer.
Workers staged a sit-in inside the building for more than two weeks after the firm announced plans to cut hundreds of jobs.
