GRAFFITI damage to Newport’s courthouse was carried out by a Ryde man angered when his medical negligence claim was thrown out by a judge.

David Clarke handed himself in to police after spraying the entrance to the Isle of Wight County Court with a Nazi swastika, calls for justice and abuse directed at the health service.

He was arrested after he went to Newport Police Station and said he carried out the attack on Wednesday night to highlight his case, which had been thrown out earlier that day.

Mr Clarke, 58, of Blackthorn Close, who was bailed to appear before Island magistrates on Tuesday, said: "Yes, I will be pleading guilty to criminal damage. I did it to highlight the fact that justice does not exist and my claim against Wexham Park and Heatherwood NHS Trust in Slough."

A team from the Isle of Wight Council's community safety service removed the graffiti yesterday (Thursday).
