THE official Cowes Port Handbook had to be recalled due to a publishing mistake.

Human error has been blamed for the blooper which involved a tide table being printed incorrectly for the period covering the first half of Cowes Week.

Isle of Wight-based Island Holiday Media, which publishes the handbook on behalf of Cowes Harbour Commission, said it had taken immediate steps to remedy the error and issued an unreserved apology to its readers.

A statement said: "An amended edition of the 2012 Cowes Port Handbook is in the process of being distributed due to a publishing error.

"The Cowes tide table on page 150 was printed incorrectly in the original version which affects the period Thursday, August 9 to Wednesday, August 15.

"Any edition of the Cowes Port Handbook which does not have a printed amendment on page 150 clearly identified by the words 'Corrected Data’, should be disregarded."

The company said distribution of the revised handbook should be completed by Friday.

The handbook features tide tables, charts, navigational information as well as details of events and information about Cowes and East Cowes, the Medina river estuary and the Island.
