AT least two local football clubs are facing a 'transfer market' scrap as they look to pull off the signing of the century a Beckham on a free transfer.

Sawbridgeworth Juniors Football Club has confirmed their interest in the big-name two-year-old, the son of Manchester United and England footballer David Beckham and 'Posh Spice' Victoria Beckham.

The club has written to Mr and Mrs Beckham who own a multi-million-pound mansion in Sawbridgeworth with the offer.

So far they have not had a reply, but club chairman Steve Day remains optimistic.

He told the Citizen: "They may want him to sign for us but it all depends on where he goes to school."

Mr Day, who denied the move was a publicity stunt, said: "We're always serious about getting all local boys playing for us. We've bought a shirt ready for Brooklyn if he wants to sign for us."

Around 200 boys aged six to 18 play for the club, which also has several senior teams.

Mr Day feels that letting Brooklyn join the club would be an ideal way for the Beckhams to get to know other Sawbridgeworth residents and become part of the local area.

"It would help them make friends with their neighbours and get in with the local community," he said.

But the Crofters End club is not the only local side interested in the toddling star.

A national newspaper has reported that Hatfield Heath Football Club, which won the local premier league championship for the first time last season, has said that it would welcome a player of Brooklyn's talent.
