Around 30 people sleep rough in prosperous Richmond at any one time, according to borough-based project for single, homeless people Single Persons Emergency Accommodation in Richmond (SPEAR).

A SPEAR hostel worker has been appointed following a grant of government funding.

Kathleen Cosgrove is helping rough sleepers find long-term accommodation as they settle back into the community.

The homelessness problem in Richmond and its surrounds was demonstrated by the fact that she helped 51 rough sleepers during her first three months in the job.
