FREE support to help people overcome the negative effects of living with a mental health condition is coming to Ryde for the first time.

Expert Patients ProgrammeCommunity Interest Company is offering the New Beginnings course, aimed at people living with, or in recovery from, mental health conditions.

New Beginnings looks at a number of areas including problem solving and goal setting, confidence building, anxiety and depression management, trigger and relapse symptom awareness, positive thinking, relaxation techniques, lifestyle, communication skills and planning for the future.

The course will start at the end of this month at Tower House Surgery, in Rink Road, Ryde.

It is open to anyone who feels they could benefit from self-management skills to aid recovery from a mental health condition.

It has a structured group approach, which aids individual growth and allows guided open discussion, peer support and helps participants learn how to deal effectively with the challenges they may face in in their daily lives.

It does help, but some of us need on-going support. Music, Sport all help but all are closed for us. If you could see our disability like a physical disability help would be available, facility's, ramps, hand rails, sport teams and on-going support are available where you see that blue wheelchair sticker. BUT us? No. I get discriminated against. My disability is in the mind, just as disabling as another. I wish the care services on the Island were equal for disability's but sadly they are not.

seems like another step towards the 'soon to be announced' sell off of Island Care facilities
