VARIOUS attractions and historical landmarks across the Isle of Wight opened their doors for free as part of the nationwide Heritage Open Days event, which ran from Thursday last week until Sunday.
Havenstreet and Wootton Bridge celebrated their first anniversary of their joint community bus scheme at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, Havenstreet, as part of its open weekend event, last Saturday. Hundreds of people attended.
In the Ryde area, St Thomas’s Church, Ryde District Heritage Centre, Binstead, and the Havenstreet war shrine, were open to the public.
In Ventnor, there were free guided tours around two of the houses in Alexandra Gardens, the Ventnor Heritage Centre and the 1860 St Andrew’s Hotel, Belgrave Road.
Other attractions included Shanklin Chine and Newport Roman Villa.
