Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service's tree on top of Ryde Fire Station was among the casualties of high winds. Picture courtesy of Kyran Rowledge.
HIGH winds and torrential rain buffeted the Isle of Wight last night (Wednesday).
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said reports of fallen trees centred on the Shanklin area between 7pm and 8.30pm at the height of the storm.
Island Roads were called to clear a total of 17 trees and road signs blocking, or partially blocking, roads.
The fire service said there were no reports of flooding.
The Environment Agency this morning issued a flood alert for the swollen Eastern Yar.
Low-lying properties and roads at Arreton, Alverstone and Langbridge were said to be at risk by the EA as river levels continued to rise from rainwater run-off.

I would like to give my heartfelt thanks to SSE for dealing with a fallen tree that took our power lines down with it last evening (Wednesday). SSE worked until 3.30 am to restore our power and make the area safe. THANK YOU!
