THE HMV store in Newport will close this month.
A sign posted in the window of the High Street store claims an agreement could not be reached with the landlord.
It said: "We regret to inform you that the HMV Isle of Wight store will cease trading October 19, 2013. This is no reflection upon the dedication and effort of the store team and our fantastic loyal customers, but is due to the fact that despite our best endeavours, the landlord will not commit to HMV as a tenant and would rather see a convenience store on the high street.
"The store will continue to operate as normal up until the closure date, which will be communicated in due course.
"Many thanks to all of our customers over the years."
The store escaped closure earlier this year when Hilco UK bought the HMV group out of administration, saving around ten full-time jobs.
HMV is consulting with 12 staff about possible redeployment.
A spokesman for Southern Co-operative today (Monday) denied they were opening a store at the property.
